Just want to tell you a little about a book I had never read before, but I've seen the movie. The book is 'Laskar Pelangi' (2005) book is a discussion of each person, in 2009. Previously I had known it since I was in junior high school (2006). When I was in a counseling class, my teacher told of a group of children who attend local schools belitung which is no longer feasible. The school was tilted to one side, then to sustain it in order not to fall, used a strong tree.
Of short stories taken from the novel, my teacher wanted to convey the message that we should be grateful because it can attend a decent school, even more than worth it. After that, my teacher tells a story again, from the novel, which can motivate and make us grateful.
At that moment, I'm not too interested in the world of the novel. Maybe because I do not understand and did not have enough money to buy it, so I can just hear some stories of the novel which told by my teacher.
Apparently at the time of high school (2009), the book was so popular. Any free time and breaks so many students who read the book along the corridor. Yes, the book is Laskar Pelangi, as told by my teacher in junior high shool.
Because the story is very motivating for anyone who reads it, the novel was filmed. And I am one of those waiting for the film was aired.
On February 2011, tetralogy of Laskar Pelangi has been translated into 18 languages. Requests from publishers outside Indonesia to publish tetralogy Laskar Pelangi kept coming. Laskar Pelangi is also a reference study of World Literature in several universities in the Philippines. Laskar Pelangi was a work selected for display at the Brazil book festival, the Bienal do Livro 2011, because of the quality of the writing and stories that represent the culture of Indonesia.
Basically, this book tells the true story of a bunch of kids who are always eager to attend school, within their limitations. Curl one of the main character, has a dream to study in Paris, France, which in the end with all the obstacles he had to pass, he can achieve it.
There are many things that appear inspired this book. This book provides examples and encouraging. This book shows that in the hands of a teacher, poverty can be turned into strengths, limitations are not an obstacle to progress, and the quality of education has a definition and a very broad dimensions. At least Laskar Pelangi and poor school Muhamaddiyah shows that a great education did not relate to the facility. Finally, the story of Laskar Pelangi tells us that the teacher is really an unsung hero.
